Garage Conversions Are The Answer When You Need More Space But Can’t Move House
Mortgages are now harder to come by than ever before which is why many people in and around Chester are increasingly looking to improve rather than move.
We can help you to increase your living space at a fraction of the cost of moving house or adding an extension to your home.
Why garage conversions are a good idea
Very few people actually keep their car in their garage, so converting it into an extra room that is habitable is an efficient use of the space and can enhance the value of your home.
What could you use your garage conversion for?
When deciding on a new use for your converted garage much depends not only on your needs, but how the space actually relates to the rest of the house. If your garage is directly linked to your living room, then a home office or playroom might be preferred over a utility room. Here are some ideas:
- Kitchen-diner extension
- Extra living room
- Utility room
- Extra bedroom
- Home office
- Home cinema
- Home gym
- Granny flat
- Gaming room
- Guest room
Garage Conversion planning permission
Planning permission is not usually needed for a garage conversion. That said, many houses built since the 1980’s have conditions attached to the original planning consent that prohibits garage conversions without planning permission. If in your case you do need planning consent, the planning office will expect you to show in your application that your property will still have an adequate amount of parking space. There are a number of other situations that require permission and you will need building regulations consent and sign off for the various elements of your build.
